SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – Nov. 1, 2011

 

Promises2Kids, a 30-year-old nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of child abuse, announces Tonya Torosian as the organization’s new chief executive officer. Torosian previously spent three years as the executive director of the San Diego County Commission on Children, Youth and Families where she led the commission to advise the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors on policies affecting the welfare of children in foster care or children involved with the juvenile justice system.
 

Torosian’s work in child welfare and nonprofit management spans 20 years and three states. She developed programs and policies for child and youth-based organizations in Illinois, Arizona and California. A tireless advocate for children and youth throughout her entire career, Torosian began her career first as a social worker, then as an executive charged with developing strategic alliances and implementing processes, systems, and policies.
 

Torosian has a strong background in fundraising, non-profit administration and board development. She also has a history with Promises2Kids, serving as the organization’s director of development from 2005 to 2008 when the foundation was known as the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation.

Torosian is a certified fundraising executive and received her Master of Social Work degree from Arizona State University with an emphasis in Planning, Administration and Community Practice. She has served on the board of several nonprofit organizations and she currently sits on the board of the San Diego chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). She is a resident of North Park (92104).
